Have been working for two weeks now. All the things seems to be alright and nothing much as they told me before, they are getting me in as “fresh” so they assume I have not much experience with .NET applications developments. In fact it’s quite true, ever since I graduated, I hardly have chance to touch .NET applications. The language has evolved and improved so much since the first version. And I have to develop in .NET 2003 now and Visual Studio 2005 for the mobile application developments. I’m currently tasked to develop, or enhance, means I need to continue to craft out areas which are not done by the previous programmer. I have to do out a lot of forms, functionalities and cater for security like encryption. I’m not supposed to leak out any details of the application. This apply to the clients information. Why so? Because I have signed the non-disclosure agreement with the company. Thus, I have to oblige to the agreed terms and law that applied. Well, it’s quite suffering for keeping what I’m doing or what I have done within myself and not being able to share with anyone.

Currently I was put in charged of 3 projects, two of them are mainly on maintenance and enhancements. The other one is to continue the project and research on areas which is required by those clients and come out with a final product which will fulfill clients’ needs and meet the requirements. Talking about that, I just met the clients with my boss, sales manager and teammate. But then I was there to do nothing at all. Really, nothing. I didn’t answer question and did not conduct any demo. Maybe the boss feel that it’s good for me to get exposed to this kind of meeting with clients? But to me, I’ve long getting used to it ever since I work in my first company. I can feel that they are nervous but not me. Maybe also because I trained teachers and students in secondary school before I landed myself in this company for this job.

Now, I did not feel nervous at all when I have to face with a lot of people. I don’t mind doing demo or training alone. I have been given too much exposure to deal with a group of people before. Thus, I felt that I’m not the one who should be getting this kind of exposure, in fact, I should be send for training to do that better, or to send me to get the necessary certifications. I’m not being proud or pride, I’m just telling you the truth that I really think that I somehow get used to the life of facing a lot of strangers or people that I know and conduct trainings and teachings as normal, therefore, to me, I feel like even meeting government agencies’ heads or directors is like nothing as I also used to meet the boss of a medical group in Singapore. I feel that I like to meet people more than just sitting in front of the computer and do programming. I do enjoy writing programs, but at the same time, I also enjoy talking to people and sharing of experiences, etc etc. For me, I consider myself as 50% deskbound, and 50% move around. Haha…

Well, recently I got a USB external TV card as a birthday present, the quality not bad. Quite good, and it is from Aztech, all the while I believed it is a China product, but if anyone of you is kind enough to prove me wrong, I would love to know it as I find that Aztech products are quite good to have and cheaper than other brands. Besides, I also gotten myself a Canon printer. This is the first time I never done enough research before I get myself a printer just because someone just happen to be in Sim Lim Square and asked me whether he can help me in getting anything from there. So I accepted his offer to get a printer, in the end I shortlisted this Canon MP180, I hope it is a good one to use. I test print one page after I’ve done the product warranty registration online. The printout looks pretty good and I’m quite satisfied with the S$203 that I paid for it. The cartridges also not that expensive, around 20+ to 30 dollars can get a replacement for the printer. I would be relying on “him” a lot since he is an All-In-One printer without fax function. I can scan, print, photocopy or print out photos with “him” around. I hope it can serve me well and last me long enough since I’ve invested on “him”. “He” come with 2 years warranty and extended 3 months warranty for registering the product warranty online. It’s quite big, so I supposed the quality of the various functions should be quite good too. Of course I can’t compare it with his brothers who are higher-end than him.

Well, I think I need to spend some time doing research on Mobile application now. I need to find out how .NET Compact Framework can be used to develop an application that can connect to Java infrastructure. I’ll update here in my blog again. So see you!

After I’ve been taking a long break after my last day in Yishun Secondary School, I would need to step my feets in the new company, Soft-Pro Pte Ltd on a 3 months probation period. I hope to get through these 3 months and get confirmed by the company by the end of my 3 months probation period. Then, I can enjoy my full benefits from the company.

I would it would be harsh to work in a new company which requires you to work hard but won’t pay you on OT during weekdays. But I know I can adapt to changes fast enough and settle down with proven performance and contribution. I wish to let the company to see the value of hiring me and making me to stay longer with them, at the same time treat me better. Oh yeah, I nearly forget to mention that I work as an Analyst Programmer in the new company. Mostly dealing with VB and the company starts to get in deals that need to be coded in VB.NET or ASP.NET.

I was told that my first day will be tasked to carry on with what the previous lady had left behind after she had migrated to US. I will be doing the front end designs and coding of a sales application for a company. I would check the details and update you later if I remember :D

Well, from what they would be giving me to work on, it does look very attractive and tempting. From there, I will slowly observe whether the company worth staying. I know I would definitely learn a lot and be facing a lot of challenges, however, all these also depends on the company and the boss. If they are willing to let me learn and handle more projects, of course I would learn a lot and pretty fast. By judging on my performance, I’m sure they would satisfied with my deliveries, as long as they provide me the opportunities to learn and grow, and to achieve what I want as well as accomplish my work and do company proud and profitable.

I know by saying all these sounds too arrogant or overly ambitious. But please allow me to dream a bit, will you? I like to dream and I really love to dream. At the same time, I’m the one who would try my best to make my dreams come true, though it might not always work according to what I have planned :)

Well, I think I would definitely update you all a lot on my daily working life as well as my life at home. I would most likely be a forced-to-be workaholic (I hope I spell it right!).

Let me encourage myself before I pen this off. Let’s fight to the end! We shall never give up, retreat, or surrender! We fight to death! Haha…maybe a bit too crazy and violent! Pardon me, will you? ;)
