This week has been a very busy week for me, going down to client’s place,
working on mobile application updates and rectifying errors and bugs,
enhancing the web application, coding out SMS modules web demo, improving or
rather completing the existing web application to put it in a more ready
state for live running on client’s side, and many more. But at the same
time, this week is full of learning opportunities where I also have the
chance to explore areas which are still new to me.

I have been trying out AJAX and other technologies on projects lately, all
these force me to make my efforts to stay focus and learn more on Microsoft
technology, which is .NET for me. I also installed Visual Web Developer 2008
at my home notebook for my self exploration and to try out new features
supported in .NET 3.5 which I think is a great improvement over the .NET
2.0. There are way much more things you can achieve in .NET Framework 3.5
and with Visual Studio 2008, or at least with Visual Studio 2008 Express
Edition.

I’ve installed VS 2005 for my office work and SQL Server 2005 Developer
Edition to work from home too. VS 2005 and SQL Server 2005 are both licensed
copy from my company which is put under Volume Licensing from MSDN
subscription (which I was told to be so). This is one of the benefits for
being a developer with my current company, though I think it’s a minor
benefit to me, haha .

Well, at least I have all the tools available for me free to use and work
from home, as long as I get the permission to install them on my notebook at
home. But all these make me realize that my notebook is no longer
up-to-standard and definitely no longer powerful enough to run the latest
software with latest technologies, which also means that they would require
better specifications out of your workstation. I’m just a poor and underpaid
developer and I do not have so much cash on hand to get myself a new and
powerful desktop computer at home. This is the greatest drawback of working
in my current company as I do not earn enough to get anything for myself,
except for staying alive! What a joke!

I can only slowly save u p bit by bit towards my various goals, which all
involve money and it’s not easy especially you are earning peanuts home like
me. Yes, peanut =.=” I’m sure you can imagine my life.

Luckily I get myself a new room in Yishun here and I’m quite satisfied with
the condition and the environment there, though transportation is giving me
some problems there. There is only two feeder bus going out to the Bus
Interchange or MRT station. Also, I have yet to familiarize myself with
areas around Yishun too, thus, I have no time to explore the walking
shortcut to MRT station yet. Haha . this is quite pathetic though.

Well, at least I’ve settled down now, but I need to go to a nearby
neighbourhood police post or maybe a police station to update my address.
Hmm.. a bit troublesome, but I have no choice, else all government letters
to me would be undelivered without my notice. Geesh .

Ok, let’s get back to the learning opportunities. Since there are so much of
learning opportunities, what have I done? Well, I did a several things,
which includes jobs I have completed as mentioned earlier. Then I realized
in order to fully utilized the resources and grabbing all the opportunities,
I have to equip myself with more skills and be prepared for challenges. So I
have to carefully choose between various languages and technologies
available to me, which I also feel that I have the capabilities to pick them
up and apply them in my projects. Well, too much things to learn but too
little time to spend eh? That’s life! We’re left with no choice but to learn
how to survive in this highly competitive society!

No matter how competitive the world has become, and how good we are in our
life and career, we should not forget those living in a lower level of the
society and jobless people around us. There are a lot of needy people around
us which we can always lend out our helping hands and open our heart to
them. We accept them as part of the society but we never bother them much,
why is it so? Or we simple has the sense of superiority over them? I have no
idea of how every one of us thinks, as I’m not God. But I do know that I
have to do my part and contribute back to the society especially those
people who really need my helps. This should be the cycle of how we have to
live our lives in. Hmm..am I confusing you? I hope not =)
