Thoughts of the Week (Spamming in Progress, mind you!)

Alright, it’s time for me to “spam” you guys again. I have not been updating my blog for long, if you did spend time following my blog post or, perhaps my twitter.

Well, even though I say I am “spamming” here, but we blog here had been under attacks most of the time, from those idiotic spammers, ever since I put on spam comment mechanism and updated my comment from the default one, it’s quite safe for me for spam comments now.

But another one is my headache here, ever since I put up a tagboard/shoutbox as requested by my students, it has been very disappointing that the spammers just won’t let me off. They even threaten me to post them my domain to remove my blog from their spam list, else all the spamming would just keep on coming to my blog. Well, shame on them! Big time! I think they simple have no ways to earn money. I don’t know why they like to spam people with stuff people don’t like. Are they retarded? Or simple just too lazy and not creative and innovative enough to think of a better way to make money! Oh come on! This is not the right way, okay?

If they keep on doing it, I might just take off the shoutbox/tagboard and that would already save me from the troubles. I have no spam comments at all, and not only this shoutbox/tagboard is giving me problems. If they, spammers think I’m so free to play with them, I have to say sorry, I would just close it and let you spam until you give up. But then I have a worries, they spam everyday, every hour, every minute, and they just won’t stop spamming everyone, and that would definitely hog up the great amount of bandwidth available. Waste of resources!

Okay, not going to rant anymore on that, waste of my time too! Haha, just to share with you a bit on that. I will try not to put in some many Seesmic videos next time. I find it loading slow and would just frustrate you as it might take a while for you to finish loading all the videos before you can actually read the content here. Maybe Seesmic have to do something about it.

I was also looking into the issues Seesmic mobile has with Nokia N96, apparently, there are some problems with loading and posting videos lately. Seesmic had taken the first step and visited Nokia for demo on Seesmic. I think Nokia should play their part too, such as, make their Symbian OS more consistent across different sets of mobile devices/smartphones, it just doesn’t make much sense when you change a new phone, the possibility is the application running fine on your previous phone, would just fail on the new one. That’s very frustrating too, and give some potential customers away, to other platforms that support your favourite applications better. So, Nokia, which you want to see?

I know Nokia had been announcing their Nokia N97 lately and it would be released first to European and Asian markets first, with touchscreen supports, around mid of 2009. This links you to the specs of N97, which you could take a look HERE at Softpedia.com. And this is a writeup and videos of N97, HERE @Slashgear.com.

Press Releases of N97 from Nokia

Well, and some eye candies for you from Nokia website, and demos from Youtube:

Well, some people are just not so fancy about Nokia N97, and it will only be released in another 6 months time. By that time, some other handsets/smartphones manufacturers, like Sony Ericsson, Samsung, HTC, iPhone, etc, would have released their improved versions too! It will again, make Nokia left behind for the competition. The touchscreen device, N97, is just not touchscreen enough, though I like the slide-out keyboard. But some said, it’s not that easy to fiddle with your fingers. Okay, maybe we shall just wait and see, whether an improved version would be released from Nokia or not, which I think, most likely not.

So, maybe we should shift our focus on Android powered phone? I’m sure some of you must have heard of G1, an Android powered phone from HTC. It’s not a very impressive or well-build smartphone, and it’s not cheap to own one. It’s also clunky, and heavy. Luckily, Agora Pro is going to release their Android phone in Australia pretty soon, read this ZDNet blog. It does look very “Blackberry” but it’s very cheap, for less than 300 before Telco’s subsidization, you can get this smartphone back with you! The blogger promised a detailed review on the phone once he had gotten it on hands. Some other readers had placed their orders too! Cool, can’t wait to know when would Google Android powered devices making their stretch to Singapore market.

Android just rocks and I’m convinced that, as long as it’s cheap enough, just like the Agora Pro, it would definitely make its way here and there would be people taking up around. But I think Apple might had foresee that, I’m not sure it’s a rumour or a deal in discussion between Walmart and Apple, on cheaper iPhone, read more HERE. This is the title of the article – This is worth reading – Would a $99 price tag turn iPhone into a RAZR?

Or you just want to get something like this? — iCone

Well, if the deal is on, then it would be time when will that kind of collaboration happen in Singapore, and other places around the globe. USD 99 iPhone with 4GB storage, for those who are desperate for one and can’t afford to own one, this would be the time to grab one! Again, most of the good deals always benefits our friends in US first. Would you be wishing that you’re living in US? Hehe, just for exmaple, the free Macbook Pro and License on Adobe Flex builder competitions on Facebook closed recently, only American and Canadian would stand a chance to win any of the stated prizes, as long as they join the Adobe Flex group on Facebook, and were selected! Just to sidetrack a bit, look at THIS and THIS regarding Facebook, would it make you worry?

That’s especially helpful enough during this widespread economy crisis happening around us right now. Recession, bankruptcy, downturns, etc, all the bad news, it would help you if your plan of upgrading stuff are halted due to tighten belts.

But it surely benefits those companies wanting to streamline their business instead of cutting costs and going for retrenchments. Here, the open source software and companies step in for helps. I wouldn’t be talking much about it here. Just read it yourself HERE – Open Source Thrives In Downturn.

I myself is a open-source supporter, though I work on Proprietary platform, which is my job and I have no choice to say no, unless my company is willing to put in open-source development into one of their development and support direction. In fact, they are already supporting open-source platform, in terms of hardware and technical supports. Just that they haven’t been ready for any software and development supports yet. I’m always eager to put in efforts for that, and I am always trying with new technologies and learning new stuff myself. I am ready, but the company isn’t ready yet. Okay, I shall see how it goes though. Meanwhile, I will try putting up some free software or applications done by me, or on request by any of you if I’m able to work out for you guys!

I’m learning Flex now, and would be finding out more on AIR too, as well as how to put Flex working on .NET and other possible back-end. Flex and AIR is pretty good in terms of distributing “real” cross-platform solutions and to reach greater number and type of audiences.

Let me see how it goes, alright, I will be heading back for my learning, and maybe find some time to do up my main page of my domain and put in some services free-of-charge, just for all of you, okay? We all love free stuff, aren’t we? I believe in sharing is caring!

Cheers everyone, and hope to see you guys soon!
