iPhone SDK Finally Released…Good and Bad

I’ve just checked the apple website this early morning in the office. Once I stepped in to the office and power up the PC, I fired up my Firefox and point it to Apple website. To my surprise the iPhone SDK is finally there!

I’m so excited until I eagerly spread out the news to those in the office whom I think would be interested in knowing it. Well, hardware department appreciate my sharing while sales department didn’t really bother except for expressing their appreciation of that piece of news to me. Yes, they are more concerned over the project I’m currently working on for a secondary school. Once it’s successfully rolled out and working well, it would be pushed to other schools to generate income for company.

Of course I wish to see that day comes to reality too. But I have a big question mark here. Would I get pay increment and better bonus if they market the product quite well among the schools in Singapore? How about the chances of pushing it to school in neighbouring countries?

I’m hoping for a greater appreciation of my performance and contribution in/to the company and get rewarded properly and felt satisfied and continue to work smart towards a better future. Otherwise, the thought of leaving would be brewing slowly in my head until it finally boils up and come into reality.

Ok, back to the topic. iPhone SDK, my long waited SDK, after spreading out the news, I browse through any single page just to check where can I download the SDK with the IDE. I’ve spend some time in searching for it until I felt sad after I’ve finally found it.

Why so? It’s because it’s currently running in MacOS only and I’m so disappointed they are still a very proprietary company like Microsoft, or even worse I think. I tried to do some research on the possibilities of developing iPhone application on Windows platform. To my disappointment, for official SDK development, there are none, though there are a few of unofficial development tools and IDE for those developers who wants to jailbreak their iPhone and develop native application before the release of official iPhone SDK.

I heard so rumours about the iPhone IDE – XCode though. It’s rumoured that it would be Apple next big plan to have it released on Windows platform too. I hope it’s a great piece of news instead of just plainly a rumour. I always want to involve myself in various mobile application development platform to really qualify for the name of mobile developer. I’ve been very keen on developing applications for mobile devices, be it standalone or client-server applications. I’m always open to options and wish to learn as many languages as I can and develop as many mobile applications as I could on as many platform and devices as possible. Now Apple is standing in front of me and telling me, “Boys, not the time yet, go back to become Gate’s boys, or buy a Mac and have fun with iPhone SDK”

Geesh, this is not a joke! To get a Mac means another big hole burn off my pants. And I never plan to have another PC/Notebook so soon. But I do have intention to get either MacBook or iMac for my next purchase. Well, I shall see how. iMac seems to be a better choice since I have lose faith in getting a notebook or MacBook for mobility. I just can’t imagine a constant upgrade of MacBook which will easily cost more and moreover I still think that iMac leaves more options for me and it come with a nice graphic card, which is what I need for my graphic related stuff and some casual online gaming needs. Not to forget about my drawing pad. Though it’s not Wacom, it’s only a XP-Pen drawing tablet, I do feel that it’s good enough for me. Unless I work as a graphic artist/designer.

Well, drawing is my hobby, but doing digital drawing/artwork is my first time. I’m still learning to get my way into digital drawing/illustration and I hope one day I would be easy with it.

Ok, I think I’m off topic again. Haha … ok talking about the iPhone SDK, not even it’s not supporting Windows yet, it’s also too bloated even including the IDE and SDK, it’s more 2GB in size, it’s a really a very BIG package. Just for download alone can take you quite some time to complete. This will scare away quite a number of developers.

Hmm…not sure what is Apple’s big plan, but I definitely have my own plan too =)

We shall see, I shall tell you next time ;-) It’s time to sleep now… Cya again! Too long never blog, just feel that I never write enough, hehe …
